Abbey East Animal Hospital Launches Redesigned Pet Care Website

WARREN, Mich., July 29, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Warren pet owners have a new resource for learning more about pet care. Abbey East Animal Hospital announced the launch of its redesigned website, http://abbeyeastanimalhospital.com. The site features a new, user-friendly interface that is designed to make it easy for pet owners to find needed pet health information. Pet owners may also access the 'Veterinary Topics' library to learn more about at-home wellness care, visit the video newsroom or find answers to common questions in the Vetopedia.

Warren veterinarian Dr. Denise Graye and veterinarian Dr. Wayne Gilchrist announced that the veterinary practice, Abbey East Animal Hospital, has launched a redesigned website. The entire site underwent a full visual redesign to make it easier for pet owners to find critical pet care information.

"Our redesigned website reflects our veterinary clinic's commitment to high quality, affordable pet care," said Dr. Graye. "We believe that a pet's long, healthy life begins with at-home wellness. We want to make it easy for pet owners to learn more about the basics of care and answer any questions they may have. We're excited to share this new website with our valued clients."

As part of the website's redesign, the site now features the "Veterinary Topics" library. This online reference includes pet training tips, seasonal care tips, and a video newsroom. Pet owners may also access the Vetopedia to learn more about the different terms used by vets when treating pets.

"As a veterinarian, I believe it's important for pet owners to have access to the latest veterinary care news," said Dr. Gilchrist. "Unfortunately, some information online is outdated or simply inaccurate. It can be difficult for pet owners to know what they can trust. That's why we are excited to offer new resources like the Vetopedia. We also encourage pet owners to sign up for our bi-weekly e-newsletter."

Pet owners who sign up for the e-newsletter will also receive free membership to the website. This includes access to the members-only web content, such as Pets4Kids and PetTV.

Pet owners who visit the website can learn more about the services and wellness packages available at the pet clinic. These include spay and neuter surgeries, microchipping, vaccinations, dental care, and annual exams. As part of the practice's puppy and kitten care services, the vets provide the full puppy/kitten vaccine series, deworming, and wellness care exams. Emergency vet services are also available.

Google Failed To Delete All Streetview Data Due to ?Human Error?

Google StreetviewGoogle put itself in political hot water by ?accidentally? collecting un-encrypted Wi-Fi data alongside roadside images, but offered to make amends by immediately deleting it with the co-operation of local governments. It?s hard to understand how such a human error could occur, however most people were willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It turns out however, another human error prevented them from carrying through on their promise, and an undisclosed amount of data remains on Google servers.

Google continues to insist that it has never been used for any commercial purpose, and will work with the ICO (Information Commissioner?s Office? to make sure it is properly addressed. ?Given how transparent Google has been on the issue, its difficult to fault them, however two user errors in a row doesn?t instil confidence. Of course the argument could be made that unencrypted information being transmitted in the clear is fair game, but world governments seem to disagree.

Google will hopefully put this issue to rest as soon as possible, as further human error will likely not be tolerated.?

Posted by Jim Nintzel on Sun, Jul 29, 2012 at 6:00 AM

On Arizona Illustrated's Political Roundtable this week: Tucson Mayor Jonthan Rothschild stops by to talk about the proposed road bonds, annexation, and downtown. Then Pima County Democratic Party chairman Jeff Rogers, Pima County Republican Party chairwoman Carolyn Cox and former state lawmaker Pete Hershberger talk about the week in politics. We tackle the proposed statewide sales-tax proposition, weigh the proposed jungle primary prop, kick around education funding, dig into whether the state's budget surplus means Arizona is on solid financial ground and more.

INTERNSHIP LAUNCHED FOR STUDY OF ... - Business Islamica

New internship to analyze sector with over $270 billion in estimated assets

Today a multinational group of companies dedicated to the Islamic banking industry announced the first nominee for the Islamic Banking & Finance internship, cosponsored by Bank of London & the Middle East (www.blme.com) in London, Wafi International in Riyadh (www.waficorp.com) and Safa Investment Services (www.safainvest.com) in Geneva and Riyadh.

Thomas R. Woods, graduating end 2012 from Durham University (U.K.) with a Master?s degree in Islamic Finance, was chosen to serve for six months.? Fluent in Arabic, Mr. Woods will focus first on global capital markets and professional asset management from the BLME offices in London, and then will conduct the first-ever study of historic investment returns at Islamic endowments (awqaf) at the Safa offices in Riyadh.? Wafi will supervise Mr. Woods? work in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi awqaf, which have an estimated $270 billion in total assets, are considered a key potential contributor to economic development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider Muslim world.? Growing at estimated double-digit rates annually, these endowments could potentially fuel broad areas of investments, from IPOs to secondary capital markets and sukuk.? Globally awqaf are thought to have at least a half trillion dollars or more in total assets, making awqaf one of the largest pools of investment funds in the Muslim world.

The role of awqaf in economic development is not well understood.? It is thought they mostly own local real estate assets, with little diversification.? The Islamic Banking & Finance internship was designed to address this information gap.? The results of Mr. Woods? research will be published in the financial media in March 2013.

Bank of London and The Middle East is the largest independent FSA-authorized Islamic bank in Europe. ?It is led by a management team that brings together a combination of experienced international bankers and leading experts in Islamic finance. ?The core divisions that make up BLME?s competitive offering are Corporate Banking, Treasury and Wealth Management comprising Private Banking and Asset Management.

Wafi International is the first company specialized in the development of non-profit organizations and social responsibility programs across the Gulf region. ?Its professional staff works to improve the professional management of social projects of non-profit organizations and the social responsibility sector, in particular charitable organizations such as awqaf. ?Wafi installs professional best practice and world-standard business management for non-profit organizations in Arabia.

Safa Investment Services is the world?s first offering of sharia-compliant independent asset management.? From offices in Geneva and Riyadh, Safa combines advanced analytics common among professional asset managers with a respect for sharia.? Safa is offered in Switzerland by Islamic Wealth & Asset Management S.A., and in Saudi Arabia by The Investor for Securities.? See www.safainvest.com.

John A. Sandwick, Manager of Safa Investment Services, says, ?The world is changing, yet most awqaf still make the same investments as they did over a hundred years ago.? We feel the results of this internship will raise a few eyebrows.? Of the quarter trillion dollars in Saudi awqaf we see almost no professional asset management.? Beneficiaries of endowments?mostly the poor and needy?may be better off if we can point to ways for improved administration of this enormous and fast-growing pile of assets.?

Harry Potter star Grint carries Olympic flame

LONDON (AP) ? Ronald Weasley certainly recognizes a goblet of fire.

Rupert Grint ? who played Ron in the famous Harry Potter films ? lent a touch of Hogwarts magic to the Olympic torch relay Wednesday by carrying the flame for a leg in northwest London.

Grint, known for his shock of red hair and for being Harry's faithful friend, started his turn at Middlesex University and was mobbed as he finished his run.

The 23-year-old actor said that he had not known what to expect, as running was "kind of a new thing" for him.

"I don't usually run for anything, but it was all downhill so I was OK," he said. "It was all a bit of a blur. I'm just so proud to be a part of it."

Some 8,000 people have taken part in the 70-day, 8,000-mile (12,900-kilometer) Olympic torch relay that crossed the length of the U.K. and even ventured into Ireland. The relay ends Friday when the last torchbearer lights the cauldron at the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium, marking the official start of the London games.

Biostar Hi-Fi Z77X gives audiophiles 7.1-channel analog sound, overpriced cables thankfully optional

Biostar HiFi Z77X motherboard gives audiophiles 71channel analog sound with amp, overpriced cables thankfully optional

There haven't been many choices in PC motherboards for audiophiles -- the 'real' kind that might see even a good dedicated sound card as slumming it. Biostar wants to fill that untapped niche with the Hi-Fi Z77X. Along with run-of-the-mill expansion for an Ivy Bridge- or Sandy Bridge-based desktop, the board's built-in 7.1-channel audio flaunts six 3.5mm analog jacks, an amp and the kind of exotic-sounding language that leads audio addicts to buy $2,000 cables they don't need. We're talking "metal-oxide film resistors" and "non-polarized electrolysis electric audio capacitors," here. Whether or not the changes have an appreciable impact on sound quality, listeners are ironically left out of S/PDIF audio, which exists only as a header on the board unless buyers spend a little more on parts. That said, if we assume the as yet unknown price isn't stereotypically high -- and that audiophiles don't mind a big, potentially noisy desktop as a home theater PC -- the Hi-Fi Z77x could be a treat for those who want to wring every nuance out of music and movie soundtracks.

Moving trash can catches your waste, annoys Larry Bird (video)

Moving trash can catches your waste, annoys Larry Bird (video)

Just when you thought developments in trash can technology hadn't moved too far since the trusted b-ball backboard accessory, a Japanese genius comes along to raise the bar. Modder FRP has created the Smart Trashbox, a moving can which uses a Kinect to track airborne garbage and make sure you'll never miss another three. Impressively, it appears he designed and built every piece of the puzzle himself, from the motorized wheel base right down to the PCB. We dread to think how much coding this took, given that the Kinect monitors the entire room, calculates trash trajectory and sends the can interception orders. Apparently the accuracy stats don't demand MVP awards just yet, but check out the highlight reel (and more details of the project) after the break.

'Healthy SF' Surcharges Slammed By Civil Grand Jury

This article comes to us courtesy of the San Francisco Public Press.

By Barbara Grady

San Francisco?s civil grand jury on Thursday chastised many of the city?s restaurants for profiting from surcharges they add to customers? bills under the name of paying for health care and recommended that the city ban the practice.

In its report the civil grand jury recommended that restaurants no longer be allowed to add health care surcharges or be allowed to offer health reimbursement accounts as a way to comply with a city law requiring businesses to help workers with health care expenses. The San Francisco Public Press reported on this problem last November as part of a team report on the city?s universal care program, Healthy San Francisco.

In a summary of its investigation into compliance with the Health Care Security Ordinance, the civil grand jury said most of the restaurants adding surcharges made money off those charges. The ordinance requires most San Francisco businesses and nonprofit employers to spend some money on health coverage for employees.

?The Jury found that a growing segment of restaurant establishments are profiting from the practice of adding a surcharge to the bill of every customer,? the report said. ?These same employers are legally able to reclaim funds intended for employee health care thus increasing their profits even more. This blatant capture of funds is at the expense of their employees, and their customers who believe they are paying surcharges for healthcare.?

ProntoForms, by TrueContext, Improves Rentokil Customer Service ...

OTTAWA, ONTARIO ? (Marketwire) ? 07/19/12 ? TrueContext Mobile Solutions Corporation (TSX VENTURE: TMN), a mobile data solutions company and maker of ProntoForms, has published a case study on how ProntoForms has improved the quality control and customer service procedures of global pest control enterprise RentoKil PLC. A sophisticated, enterprise-ready mobile workforce management solution deployed by over 1,800 businesses, ProntoForms incorporates a mobile application for leading device operating systems, a Web portal for managing users, and connectivity to back office systems. ProntoForms allows office-to-field, real-time dispatching and mobile data collection.

?We have an excellent QA program that evaluates the work of our team, but the administration side simply couldn?t keep up. Each operation manager had to spend a couple of hours inputting audit information every week from paper forms; it wasn?t easy to get them to buy in. Our team has really taken to using ProntoForms. Morale has also improved, as ProntoForms has led to workers being more willing to go ahead and conduct audits,? explains Paul Kamzelski, Rentokil North American Director of Customer Service.

With a presence in over 40 countries through its multiple brands, Rentokil is a leader in the pest control industry. The firm conducts thorough account audits that require extensive data record-keeping.

?The Rentokil case study is a prime example of how ProntoForms can accomplish these elements for big business. Rentokil, like many global enterprises, was considering a custom-built MEAP (Mobile Enterprise Application Platform) solution. However, the complexity and costs of building and maintaining a solution to adapt to different departments across a global operation are staggering, as compared to a customizable, packaged solution like ProntoForms,? states Alvaro Pombo, TrueContext CEO and Founder.

Frequently, enterprise size businesses deploy ProntoForms within a division or specific function to demonstrate initial ROI. Once deployed, ProntoForms typically experiences growth within existing accounts, prompting divisional and operations executives to rapidly deploy it into other business segments.

To read the complete ProntoForms Rentokil case study, visit: http://prontoforms.com/res/downloads/case-studies/ProntoForms-CaseStudy-Rentokil.pdf.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday the United States and Israel were "on the same page" in their determination to prevent Iran from achieving what the West fears its goal of building a nuclear bomb.

In Jerusalem on the last stop of an Asian and Middle East tour, Clinton said she and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "talked about concrete steps that we can take to continue to build the pressure" on Tehran.

Israel is widely thought to be the only country in the Middle East with nuclear weapons capability and, citing threats made by Iran's leaders to destroy it, has made clear it would attack the Islamic Republic if diplomacy fails.

Iran denies Western accusations of a covert agenda to develop a nuclear weapon, insisting it wants to stockpile enriched uranium solely to generate more electricity for a rapidly growing population and radio isotopes for medical use.

Talks between world powers and Iran to resolve the standoff have so far failed to secure a breakthrough.

Clinton said that while Washington would prefer a diplomatic resolution to the impasse with Tehran: "Our own choice is clear, we will use all elements of American power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon."

She accused Iran of failing to respond so far to diplomacy. "I made very clear that the proposals we have seen from Iran thus far within the P5+1 negotiations are "non starters," she said.

Referring to her meeting in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Clinton said "it's absolutely fair to say we are on the same page at this moment trying to figure our way forward to have the maxiumum impact on affecting the decisions that Iran makes".

Clinton's remarks and her visit, her first to Jerusalem since 2010, followed months of chilliness between Netanyahu and the administration of President Barack Obama, who faces a Nov. 6 re-election bid against a Republican rival who regularly accuses Obama of being insufficiently supportive of Israel.

Republican candidate Mitt Romney is also planning a visit to Israel this month. Obama has not visited the Jewish state as president.

College student falls through the cracks of 'deferred action' policy

Last month we wrote about the passage of an executive order by the president of the United States, which makes it possible for some undocumented immigrants to remain the country without fear of deportation for a set period of time. Eligible individuals have to meet several different criteria including going to school or being a part of the military.

While many students and members of the armed forces sighed in relief, as we wrote in that post, there will still be many undocumented immigrants to whom the change will not apply. In addition to meeting education or military requirements, those who are eligible must have been in the U.S. for at least five years. They must also have come to the country before the age of 16.

Despite the work a 23-year-old Miami Dade college student has done lobbying for the passage of the DREAM act on behalf of Students Working for Equal Rights, sadly, the immigration policy change will not help him to stay in the country legally. This is because he did not come to the U.S., from his birth country of Honduras, until a couple months after he turned 16. Immigration experts estimate that there are many others who will find themselves in the same predicament.

The fact that the young man has managed to attend college is a feat within itself. Many undocumented immigrants find it impossible to pay the high tuition as they are not eligible for the federal financial aid that makes it possible for so many citizens to obtain and advanced education. Seeking a degree in civil engineering, he was working construction with his father when he met a recruiter at Miami Dade College. In addition to helping him apply to the school, she also assisted him in obtaining a full scholarship.

While the young man is not eligible to stay in the country under what is being referred to as "deferred action," all is not necessarily lost. An immigration attorney may be able to help him find another way to remain in the country legally.

US-Turkey-Chaired Counterterrorism Forum Dumps Israel

Hillary and Erdogan, together, in Istambul: Today, the CT Forum; tomorrow, the umma!

---

This week's column:

The Washington Free Beacon reported this week on the continuing omission of Israel from a U.S.-sponsored organization called the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF). At a recent forum meeting in Spain, Maria Otero, U.S. undersecretary of state for civilian security, democracy and human rights, delivered a speech titled "Victims of Terrorism," but, in her roll call of victims, she didn't mention Israel. The conference at which she spoke was described as a "high-level conference on the victims of terrorism," but Israel wasn't a participant.

It bears repeating because it is so fantastic: At an international conference devoted to victims of terrorism, the world's leading victim or, better, leading target of terrorism -- Israel -- was nowhere in sight, or mind.

Welcome to the GCTF -- U.S. counterterrorism's new "normal." This 30-member organization got its official start last September as a "major initiative" of the Obama administration when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced its launch in New York.

It was quite an occasion; Hillary curled her hair. Seated next to her Turkish co-chairman, ensconced amid ministers from Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and 18 other miscellaneous member-states plus the European Union, she then said the magic words: "From London to Lahore, from Madrid to Mumbai, from Kabul to Kampala, it's innocent civilians who have been targeted ..."

Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Ashkelon? Poof, gone. And that's the point: This new counterterrorism organization, with its related counterterrorism center coming soon to Abu Dhabi, is Judenfrei. Not coincidentally, it is also heavily Islamic. Eleven member-states -- slightly more than one-third of the organization's membership -- also belong to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a bloc of 56 Islamic countries working to impose Islamic law (Shariah) on the world. Six of those 11 members additionally belong to the Arab League. Both groups have defined "terrorism" to exclude Israeli victims (sometimes U.S. soldiers), and "terrorists" to exclude groups dedicated to the destruction of Israel, such as Hamas and Hezbollah. It is no wonder the Arab-Islamic members would now unite in "counterterrorism" without Israel.

What is both shocking and shameful, however, is that the U.S. would, too. It shows that the U.S. has implicitly but clearly accepted the Arab League/OIC definitions of terrorism and terrorists.

As in Libya, where the U.S. supported the jihad-linked side, as in Egypt (same), as in Syria (same), this side-switching sparks scant comment. Oh, sure, there was some media yapping last month when Hillary jetted to Istanbul to pronounce another Israel-free incantation about efforts to "defeat extremist ideology." Two -- count 'em, two -- U.S. senators (independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Republican Mark Kirk of Illinois) wrote her letters. But such complaints are nothing next to the smiles and cooperation coming our way from the Islamic core of the GCTF. And it was so easy! Why didn't we think of this before? All we have to do is see things the way the Islamic world does; pretend things like Israel don't exist (just as maps in Arab countries already indicate); and insist that Islam is a boon to mankind -- not the animating doctrine of global jihad against Israel and the wider West.

I would like to say this is all something President Barack Obama initated, but such appeasement goes back a long way. If we look to the Gulf War in 1990-1991, we see this same denial of Israel's existence take shape in the makeup of President George H.W. Bush's "international coalition" -- sans Israel. The same is true in 2003 with the formation of President George W. Bush's "coalition of the willing" in Iraq (also Afghanistan) -- sans Israel.

These omissions were in no way due to Israel's unwillingness to join the "war on terror." They were due to the same Islamic pressure in force today. Both Bushes bowed to it, accepting a state of dhimmitude (inferiority of non-Muslims under Islam) for the high privilege of spilling American blood and treasure into the ungrateful desert. Israel, both Bushes agreed with their Islamic "allies," just wasn't fit to fight on Islamic sand. Thus, Israel was excluded from these wartime alliances.

Such dhimmitude only intensifies, as the latest developments show. Under the Bushes, after all, while Israel was not permitted to fight alongside coalition forces, at least it was still recognized for withstanding more than 60 years of Islamic terrorist attacks. Today, under the auspices of the Obama administration, Israel no longer rates mention even as a victim. "Big Satan" has thrown "Little Satan" to the sharks. Which says two things about Big Satan. Our institutions now see the world from the Islamic perspective, and, as far as the sharks go, we're next.

Anne Hathaway's Catwoman Getting 'Dark Knight' Spin-Off?

Anne Hathaway may get another chance to squeeze into her skin-tight catsuit. In The Dark Knight Rises, 29-year-old Hathaway plays Selina Kyle, better known as her alter-ego Catwoman. And while director Christopher Nolan insists he won't be making another Batman film, he says that Hathaway's villain (or is she secretly a good gal?) would be purrfect spin-off material.

Researchers work to create hypoallergenic wines and sequence the genome of Chardonnay

ScienceDaily (July 12, 2012) ? For centuries, people made wine by stomping grapes with their bare feet. But now, the art of winemaking is going high-tech at The University of British Columbia's Wine Research Centre.

Have you ever gotten a headache or a rash from a single glass of wine? Has one glass of Merlot or Shiraz resulted in a painful hangover? If yes, you may be one of the 30 percent of people who are allergic to (or intolerant of) compounds that are in some of the world's most popular wines.

A team of researchers at UBC's Wine Research Centre -- which has received funding from the Government of Canada through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) -- is working to resolve the allergic reaction some people have to wine. The research team has created a strain of yeast that prevents allergic reactions, producing a wine that is hypoallergenic and can be enjoyed by everyone. The yeast developed at the Wine Research Centre is now being used by some of the most recognizable vintages produced in Canada and the United States.

"Investments made in science and state-of-the-art facilities are giving Canada's wine industry an edge in a highly competitive market," said the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology). "Sectors across Canada such as forestry and agri-food are also benefiting from this type of research-driven growth."

Most British Columbia wines are consumed domestically. The work being undertaken by Professor van Vuuren and his team aims to ensure that Canadian wines can better compete against the world's finest labels.

"Advanced scientific knowledge is an important strategic asset for winemakers," said Professor Hennie van Vuuren, Director of the Wine Research Centre. "We are committed to helping this important industry compete."

Researchers at UBC are even bringing the science of genetics to bear on the ancient practice of winemaking. Chardonnay is one of the most widely planted grapes on the planet and a staple of British Columbia's wine industry. However, few wine producers know what variety of Chardonnay they plant each year. Professor van Vuuren is hoping to solve this problem by sequencing the genome of several varieties of Chardonnay. The belief is that, with the right genetic information, wine producers can make better decisions about which grape to plant, increasing the productivity of their vineyards.

Higgs discovery: giants of physics overlooked

Last week's discovery of the Higgs boson was the result of an international collaboration involving thousands of scientists, but it seems two nations feel their contribution has been overlooked.

An article published in Pakistan's Express Tribune last Friday detailed how Pakistani physicist Abdus Salam, with Americans Steven Weinberg and Sheldon Glashow, developed the electroweak theory that unifies two of the four fundamental forces. Their work helped complete the standard model, of which the Higgs is the final part to be observed, and won the trio the 1979 Nobel prize for physics.

Despite his success, Salam was forced to leave Pakistan in the 1970s because he was a member of the Ahmadi movement, an offshoot of mainstream Islam that was outlawed by the Pakistani government.

Meanwhile, the day after CERN's announcement of a new particle, the Indian Press Information Bureau put out a press release entitled "Satyendranath Bose: Higgs-Boson's Forgotten Hero". Bose was an Indian physicist who worked with Einstein to understand the behaviour of subatomic particles that were later dubbed bosons.

Some physicists think the link between either researcher and the Higgs discovery is tenuous. "Bose is one of the great physicists who missed a Nobel," says Frank Close at the University of Oxford. However, his work only indirectly underpins last week's discovery. Salam, meanwhile, "has no claim on the Higgs boson", Close says.

Higgs and his colleagues did their work in 1964. It was one of those colleagues ? Tom Kibble ? who used the information as the basis of our modern picture of subatomic particles, and later influenced Salam, says Close. "If anyone deserves recognition beyond Higgs, it is in my opinion Kibble, who incidentally was born in India."

Nevertheless, "among physicists both [Salam and Bose] are regarded as giants", says Jim Al-Khalili, a physicist at the University of Surrey, UK. "Science transcends such petty distinctions as race, nationality or religion. If only the wider world did too."

Florida A&M president resigns in wake of scandal

The president of Florida A&M University submitted his resignation Wednesday, the same day the university was sued by parents of a drum major who died during a hazing. It was unclear if the two events were related.

James Ammons announced the resignation, which takes effect Oct. 11, in a letter to the chairman of the university's governing board. He said his decision came after "considerable thought, introspection and conversations with my family."

The school's trustees gave Ammons a vote of no-confidence in June, after questioning his leadership in several areas, including what some saw as his lax attitude toward hazing and management of the band prior to Robert Champion's death in November.

At the time, Ammons said he would stay on the job, and he immediately recommended stringent new eligibility requirements for membership in The Marching 100 band, which has played at Super Bowls and inauguration ceremonies.

Champion died in November after being beaten by fellow band members during a hazing ritual aboard a bus parked outside an Orlando hotel following a football game against the school's archival.

Eleven FAMU band members face felony hazing charges, while two others face misdemeanor counts for alleged roles in the hazing. They have pleaded not guilty. Their trial is scheduled to begin the same month as Ammons' resignation, in October.

Champion's death put a spotlight on hazing at the school and led to the suspension of the band until at least next year.

The lawsuit brought by Champion's parents claims Florida A&M University officials did not take action to stop hazing even though a school dean proposed suspending the band because of hazing concerns three days before their son died. School officials also allowed nonstudents to play in the band, fell short in enforcing anti-hazing policies and did not keep a close eye on band members to prevent hazing, the lawsuit said.

School officials "failed to properly supervise, train, discipline and control the FAMU Band," the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit seeks damages greater than $15,000, but does not give a specific amount.

Champion's parents, Robert and Pamela, have already sued the bus company, claiming the driver stood guard outside while the hazing took place. The company said the driver was helping band members with their equipment.

Florida A&M University trustees were added as defendants to the lawsuit, which was to be refiled later Wednesday. Under state law, Champions parents had to wait six months before they could include the university in the lawsuit since it's a state entity.
