More than thirty years since the original release of the film The Rocky Horror Show, the story still captivates audiences. All over America, people gather regularly to watch the film and participate by dancing, acting out characters, and dressing in costume. Paupers Players build on this history by bringing the film to life and incorporating audience participation: be prepared to check out the light ?Over at the Frankenstein Place? and do the ?Time Warp?. The production transforms the story into a piece of musical theater, encompassing science fiction, bold musical numbers, and elements of a drag show.
If you are a fan of the film, have no fear; this theatrical adaptation leaves the outlandish storyline intact. On the way to visit an old college professor, two clean cut kids, Brad Majors and his fianc?e, Janet Weiss, run into trouble and seek help at the site of a light down the road. It?s coming from the freaky Frankenstein mansion. Little do they know that the mansion is inhabited by alien transsexuals from the planet Transylvanice and Dr. Frank?n?Furter is in the midst of one of his maniacal experiments.
Paupers Players have established themselves at UNC as an entirely student-run group dedicated to collaborative musical theater for more than twenty years. They perform three musical productions each year and one Broadway Revue.?A?perfect?post-Halloween event for adults, you will not want to miss this unique experience!
Programs at The ArtsCenter are supported in part by The North Carolina Arts Council, the Orange County Arts Comission and Tony Hall and Associates.
