New England Conservatory is celebrating the most successful Feast of Music in the gala?s history. The annual event regularly attracts 400+ guests and features a unique format of alternating courses of spectacular cuisine and fine wines, with virtuoso musical performances by NEC students. At this year?s Viennese-themed evening at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, 425 guests attended and net proceeds exceeded $600,000, enough to support 52 scholarships.

The event was chaired by Trustee Joan Yogg and her husband Michael of Wellesley; Visitor Deborah Hanley and her husband Frank McGuire of Beacon Hill; and Trustee Joseph Bower and his wife Elizabeth Potter of Cambridge.

Among the highlights of the evening were a menu of updated Austrian dished designed by acclaimed Austrian Chef Kurt Gutenbrunner of New York?s Caf? Kristall, Walls?, Caf? Sabarsky in the Neue Gallerie, and Blaue Gans. Among the courses was a smoked trout crepe tart with horseradish, chestnut soup with Armagnac prunes, venison goulash, and Apple Strudel ?Caf? Sabarsky.? The dishes were accompanied by Austrian wines including Zweigelt, Dornenvogel, Glatzer 2009; and Gruener Veltliner, Kammerner Heiligenstein, Hirsch 2009.

Musical selections ranged from Johann Strauss II?s Tritsch-Tratsch Polka in a bravura arrangement for piano by Georges Cziffra; three Fritz Kreisler virtuoso violin pieces, and excerpts from Die Fledermaus and Der Rosenkavalier.

At the after-party, guests danced to Strauss waltzes performed by chamber orchestra directed by student conductor Andres Lopera.

A highlight of Feast is the spectacular silent auction, which offers bidders an opportunity to extend the pleasures of the evening through a variety of luxurious prizes including, this year, Sacher Torte, tickets to the Vienna Staatsoper, and behind-the-scenes restaurant tours, among others. Two showstoppers at the auction were a dinner for ten offered by Chef Gutenbrunner that sold for $20,000 and an operatic evening in the winning bidder?s home presented by Metropolitan Opera and Seattle Opera bass-baritone Greer Grimsley that sold for $10,000.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from these plugs. I used them for a few months in my 02' Camaro when suddenly I noticed some sputtering and heavy hesitation, especially when the engine was cold. I checked the plugs and sure enough, two of them had severe gap erosion. I never even noted any gas mileage improvement. Not to mention these plugs are MADE IN CHINA! There is no substitute for good old fashion conventional design plugs. They've been in use for over 70 years after all.

I have tried many 4 ; 2 electrode spark plugs in platinum. But I find reliability in this particular brand spark plugs during heavy loads, such as going uphill and towing ; hauling. Helped with acceleration and still performing very well. Got these at a great price from Amazon and was shipped promptly.

Health fair in Hampstead highlights fitness, holistic medicine |

HAMPSTEAD ? Roclyn Porter pressed a button to inflate the two lungs on display at the Hampstead Health Fair yesterday.

?One is a healthy lung and the other is the equivalent of smoking a pack a day for 16 years,? she said. ?The black on the lungs is tar and it doesn?t inflate fully. Most people are freaked out. It?s a nice visual.?

Porter works for Family Mediation and Juvenile Services and explained the organization uses the lungs ? which are from pigs not humans ? for tobacco education. Her display was one of 36 different health-related groups at the Hampstead Middle School yesterday.

Nearly 300 people came to the fair, from children to seniors. Organizer Berny Longbook said the Hampstead Health Fair has become a community event after running for 11 years.

?Every year we see the same kids,? she said. ?They?ve grown up with the fair. It?s become a family affair.?

And each year, more local businesses want to participate. This year, the fair had new holistic health options, including Merrimack Valley Acupuncture and a reflexologist, who analyzes different parts of the body.

?There?s a lot of networking that goes on at the fair,? she said. ?That?s something the vendors tell us they like.?

One booth had a flat-screen TV and Kinect video game system, set up by Ted Curtin, owner of Hampstead Health and Fitness Center.

?We have a kids? fitness center,? he said. ?They learn to exercise and also to do interactive fitness video games. It?s a workout, let me tell you. I?m out of breath.?

The children at the event lined up to play a track and field game, running, jumping and throwing in place. Jeremy Wyckoff, 10, of Atkinson threw the longest javelin in the game.

?I think it?s really fun and good exercise,? he said. ?I play it a lot. No one?s going to beat my record.?

Julie Kinney, owner of Living Well Physical Therapy in Chester, had a machine that looked like a scale with a moveable base to measure people?s balance.

?This machine tests balance and strength issues,? she said. ?It shows if people have an increased risk of falling. Then we let them know how we could possibly help them.?

Other displays included information from an expert on Lyme Disease, free massages, free dental and hearing screenings and more. Phil Boshar, pharmacy manager for Walgreens in Hampstead, offered a free blood pressure screening for every visitor.

?This is our fifth year participating in the fair,? he said. ?We promote the blood pressure screenings, but we also do pneumonia and shingles vaccines for patients in their 60s.?

And residents said they appreciated the services offered at the fair. Bina Beauregard, 70, of Haverhill said this is the third year she?s come to the fair.

?I love it; it?s very informative,? she said. ?I did the balance test and it was great, especially for older people.?

Lisa Fiarhust, 46 of Plaistow came with her two sons, age 6 and 7.

?There?s so much information,? she said. ?The Lyme disease exhibit is fascinating. And the kids love it because of the free giveaways.?

Longbook said they?re already planning for next year, adding more vendors to the list.

?It?s definitely been a successful day,? she said. ?We always come up with ideas for next year today. Next year, we?re going to invite the Easter Seals we decided.?

Flight Track -- an indispensable app for those of us who go places to do things for a living -- just got itself a sizable (if slightly cryptic) update. First, the changelog:

• Customizable time zones for flight times
• Added calendar-style date selection (phone)
• Significant reduction in app size
• ICS-based enhancements (phone and tablet)
• Missing string localizations for some languages
• Minor bug fixes

And now, a little tough love: We're not quite sure what these "ICS-based enhancements" are, but we know one thing: Flight Track is still using the legacy menu design that is supposed to be phased out with Ice Cream Sandwich. We cropped it out of our picture here, but Flight Track's still got the telltale menu button tucked down with the ICS navigation buttons, and that's not good.

Hey, developers. It's time for some spring cleaning. We're picking on Flight Track right now, but this remains true for far too many applications. And it's probably a good thing that they be updated now, before Google decides to bring down the hammer.

Movies about Serial Killers have always interested me. Whether it be a fictional film, biography film or a documentary. I'm in. After watching the trailer for Dahmer, a movie about the Serial Killer Jeffery Dahmer. I was sucked in and I didn't want to get out. I always like to read the reviews before I watch the movies then I compare my thoughts to them. It got nothing but bad reviews except for possibly 2.

I am really happy I ignored the reviews because I loved it. I don't know how anyone can watch it without being glued to the T.v. screen. Right in the beginning of the movie it says "On February 15Th, 1992 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer was convicted of 15 counts of murder and sentenced to 937 years of federal prison. The following story was inspired by events from his life. Certain characters and events are fictional."

We're then introduced to Jeffery Dahmer while he's working in his factory job making Chocolate bars. The film is more of a psychological portrait, rather than a chronological retelling of Dahmer's life as a Serial Killer and it doesn't focus primarily on the actual killings themselves.

Dahmer's first kill in the movie was a Asian boy named Khamtay. He talks him into coming over to his apartment to take some pictures by offering to buy him shoes that he had his eyes on. They settle in Jeffery's living room watching T.v. while Dahmer spikes his drink to put Khamtay into a sedated state. Once the boy is out cold, Dahmer begins to have his way with him. Later on, he awakens and tries to escape Dahmer's apartment while he was out shopping but didn't get very far.

He reaches two young girls and they try to help him and explain to the cops that they don't think he'll be safe with Dahmer. The police ignore the girl's warning and tell them to leave. They take Khamtay back to Dahmer's apartment despite the way Dahmer was acting and not noticing the drill holes on the side of his head. After the police leave the boys, Khamtay falls victim to Dahmer's fatal occupation.

The movie continues with flash backs of Dahmer's life while living with his Grandmother and the relationship with his Father. We witness Dahmer's first kill in his life at the age of 18 years old. A boy by the name of Lance Bell that he picked up to smoke weed with. Dahmer decides to kill Lance because he was trying to leave and he didn't want Lance to go. He cuts up Lance's body to put in Black plastic bags so he can dispose of the evidence. The killing of Lance Bell showed the most blood but it wasn't too graphic.

Switched back to present day, Dahmer heads to a knife shop, looking to buy a knife and he meets another boy named Rodney. He invites Rodney over to his apartment to drink some beers and because Rodney is stupid, agrees to tag along. He stop at a club so Rodney can pick up some money from a dude that owed him some. Dahmer chooses to stay outside since the last time he was in that club he got kicked out for spiking the male costumer's drinks and raping them.

They finally get back to Dahmer's apartment and they begin to drink and socialize. Sadly for Dahmer, he didn't have enough pills he uses to sedate his victims to put in Rodney's drink. The movie continues to go back and forth from the flashback of 1978 and present day. It's back to 1978 and Dahmer's dad, Lionel Dahmer is yelling at Jeffrey because he wants him to open his old box that Jeffrey has, but doesn't want to since he has a human head hidden inside it. Lionel tries to send Jeffrey to a shrink but that doesn't solve anything.

In present day Rodney is still at Dahmer's apartment, drunk and not feeling well. He tries to leave but Dahmer tackles him to the couch but ends up realizing him after Rodney pulls a knife on him. About maybe 20 mins or so, Rodney comes back because he really fell for Jeffrey. Can you blame Rodney? Who wouldn't fall for him, look at that smile! Dahmer's second attempt to kill Rodney was by strangling him with Rodney's belt but doesn't succeed and Rodney escapes and throws a rock at his window while running way.

It goes back to 1978 for one last time and shows Jeffrey walking through the woods and the movie ends with the closing lines "After serving two years of his life sentence, Jeffrey Dahmer was attacked and killed by another inmate. He died on November 28Th, 1994, at the age of 34." The movie left out how Jeffrey was a cannibal and showed him only killing 2 boys when he killed much more then that.

Instead of being a movie solely based on Dahmer's crime spree, it takes on more of a psychological feel while taking a look into Jeffrey's life and his way of thinking. Jeremy Renner's portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer was amazing. You can't watch his performance of Dahmer and not feel bad for the guy. He draws you in by being very charismatic. It's very hard to think that behind that killer smile is an actual killer. His performance made me feel bad for Dahmer and made me think, well maybe if he had more friends and was accepted by everyone then he wouldn't of done this.

No matter how many friends he had and who accepted him, he was still going to kill people. I do not believe someone can just snap out of the blue and start murdering people. There would of had to be something wrong with you upstairs since childhood and possibly birth to make you that way. I really enjoyed this movie a lot and thought it was tastefully done. One of the reviewers said this movie was soft core porn. Hahaha! No, it's not. She should look up soft core porn, she'd be amazed at what she sees. I do wish they would of added more of his killings and showed how he was a cannibal. Other then that, the movie was awesome. I give this movie 4 out of 5 Skulls.
