Revealed: Revolutionary War-era 'Assassin's Creed 3'

17 hrs.

Fans of "Assassin's Creed" are well aware of the impending arrival of the third installment, still likely due in October. The real question has been about the time period covered in the ?game. Parts 1 and 2 milked the Middle Ages and Renaissance?dry, so what?s next? Why, the founding of the United States of America.

The first clue emerged last night, when Kotaku got their hands on cellphone pictures taken by a Best Buy employee, from internal documents. Not much later was another discovery that Joystiq highlighted, of a banner ad tied to Game Informer, one featuring the supposed new protagonist alongside George Washington crossing the Delaware.

And just revealed about a few hours ago, via Ubisoft Canda's Facebook page, is confirmation of the new setting, in the form of the upcoming game's cover images,?seen above.

Game Informer has also revealed the cover of their upcoming April issue, in which "Assassin's Creed 3" is the star. The highlight here is how a small number of subscribers will receive, at random, a special wrap-around created by noted comic artist Alex Ross, which you can see more of on the magazine's site.

Other than the new time period, nothing else has been revealed. But fans are already excited with the prospect of handling weapons from the Revolutionary War. You have a gun, similar to what American and British soldiers used, plus a bow and arrow.

Perhaps most telling of all is the tomahawk with a blade that's molded after the assassin's crest, which has led to speculation surrounding the new assassin?s background.
